The Lathrop United under-19 boys dominated two Stockton teams to advance its record to 5-1-1 in the California Youth Soccer Association District 8 Jim Frazier League.

The team, made up of players from the Lathrop High soccer program, started out with a 6-0 victory behind Hairo Silva’s hat trick. Anthony Garcia, Alexis Palomares and Luis Vargas each contributed a goal. Jefry Raudales, Ulysses Almanza, Alfredo Gonzalez, Jose Castellanos and Palomares each had an assist.

Lathrop was down a few players for its second contest.

“We had to face a much tougher opponent,” coach Alfredo Reynaga said. “We had our hands full in the early 20 minutes of the game. The second Stockton team was extremely physical and played fast. We had to match their intensity and so we did.”

Lathrop United posted another shutout, 4-0. Palomares scored twice, Silva added another goal to his productive day and Vargas contributed one as well. Juan Diaz, Palomares, Silva and Raudales also chipped in with assists.

“This game could have easily gone either way at first, but the boys kept their cool and began to control the game,” Reynaga said. “All four goals were tough ones to come by.”

Lathrop wraps up regular-season play this weekend in Tuolumne County. The league tournament is set for Jan. 24-25 in Manteca.
