Almond Blossom Festival parade today

RIPON — The 48th annual Almond Blossom Festival parade starts at 11 a.m. today in downtown Ripon.

The actual festival grounds though are at Mistlin Sports Park at Jack Tone and River roads. You can reach the festival from Manteca by taking Highway 99 south to the Jack Tone Road exit and then turning north on Jack Tone Road. You can also take Highway 120 east to Jack Tone Road and turn right.

The festival is open today and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will feature arts, crafts, food, other booths, entertainment, and a carnival.

Today’s activities start with a mile fun run at 8:30 a.m. at Mistlin Sports Park followed by an 8K run at 9 a.m.

The Almond Blossom buffet breakfast takes place Sunday at the Ripon Veterans of Foreign Wars, 12455 E. West Ripon Road.

The $8 cost includes pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, coffee, juice, and fruit. Children under 8 are free.

Ripon Idol Contest 2010
Ripon Idol contest will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Mistlin Sports Park Amphitheater.

The contest is for individuals only. There is no entry fee.  Contestant must complete the “Ripon Idol Performance Application” to be eligible to enter.  The application will be available at the Amphitheater at the stage

There will be a cash award for first ($100), second ($65) and third place ($35) only.  

All contestants must have signed an application, copyrighted performance CD preferable with no lyrics, turned in no later than 2 p.m. today.  Applications can be turned into Norman Boyden, Todd Davis, or Dorothy Booth.

Only 15 total contestants will perform.  If more than 15 applications are received then a drawing will be done and the first 15 applications drawn will be awarded contestant numbers.
