Roll on, Junior Buffaloes.

The Manteca Junior Buffaloes’ competition cheerleading squad finished first out of 14 teams at the JAMZ National Cheer competition in Las Vegas last weekend.

The competition team consists of 12 girls, ranging from 10- to 13-years-old. Members of the team are: Isabella Cebreros, Madelynn Cebreros, Sam Cerritos, Sophia Cerritos, Yasmin Aguilar, Natalia Aguilar, Janita Ferrando, Reina Arroyo, Destinnee Hennemann, Tatiana Dadey, Ashley Wheeler, and Briana Diaz.

The national championship capped an eventful first year for the competition program. The girls not only cheered on the Junior Buffaloes football teams during the fall, but the squad also competed at events in Sacramento, San Francisco and Stockton’s University of the Pacific.

The cheer squad is coached by Melissa Sanchez and Jade Valencia. Mark St. John is the stunt assistant, Samantha Ferrando is the cheer coordinator, and Therese Botell is the cheer director.

Knights 3rd in division at JAMZ

The novice and combined junior varsity/varsity Ripon Knights cheerleader squads competed in the JAMZ Nationals at Las Vegas, taking on squads twice their size.

The novice squad consisted of Sydney Briggs, McKenzie Keith, Grace Oneto, and Abigail Ries. The combined junior varsity/varsity squad was made up of Brooke Grabowski, Anna Hernandez, Grace Lewis, Elena Lopez, Aunalee Ries, Isabella Steele, and Emily VanGroningen.

The junior varsity/varsity combined squad placed third in their division.

“It was just an honor to say we qualified to go to Vegas,” VanGroningen said. “To be third place in the nationals is amazing.”
