Get ready for Market & Music in Manteca.

It’s the new 9-week version of a longtime favorite, the Downtown Farmers Market.

“We have made changes to make it a more family friendly event,” noted Manteca Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Joann Beattie.

They are shortening the event to run in June and July on Tuesdays at Library Park instead of all the way until the end of August. The hours are being extended to 4:30 to 8 p.m.

The format is also changing. They are stepping up efforts to secure family friendly music that includes the California Cowboys to start things off on June 2. Also booked are Jim Anderson & the Rebels. Both are popular bands that play venues throughout Northern California. The California Cowboys have played the Manteca Pumpkin Fair Main Stage. Jim Anderson is a homegrown talent who impresses with his early Elvis Presley songs and other music.

The farmers will be lined up on the street facing the park while vendors will encircle the gazebo. That will allow families to enjoy the music as they shop as well as stay awhile to enjoy the cool summer evening.

Beattie said issues that have plagued Library Park in previous years have been cleaned up thanks to the Manteca Police partnering with community groups to address homeless and other issues.

“I go by there every day and it is much more pleasant,” Beattie said.

The chamber has already started booking farmers. They also are offering vendor space for $20 per night for non-profits, $35 for crafters and commercial vendors, and $45 for food vendors. Chamber members receive a $5 discount.

Market & Music in Manteca is being presented by American Chevrolet and the South San Joaquin Irrigation District.
