Lancers roll behind total team effort

Everybody got into the act for the East Union sophomore girls basketball team Thursday night at the Dalben Center as the Squires improved to 11-1 in Valley Oak League play with a blowout of Weston Ranch.

Briona Fontenot scored a game-high 16 and handed out six assists, while Brittany LaMar hauled in 11 rebounds and Millicent Puahi-Olangca dished off five assists.

Morgan Hulsebosch dropped 13, Katrina Camara had 10 and Rachel Hoppis chipped in eight.

April Seth had 13 for the Cougars and Emily Medrios added 10.

East Union travels to Central Valley Tuesday, while the Cougars host Sonora.

Sierra 55, Manteca 32
Lyssa Allen scored 10 of her game-high 14 in the first quarter as Sierra outscored Manteca 18-13 in the opening frame and cruised from there.

Jordan Johnson had 13, Alysia Atkins 10 and Stephanie Vanni eight.

Dallas Mould paced the Buffaloes with 13.

Sierra 46, Manteca 43 (OT)
The T’Wolves played in their third overtime contest in their last four games and came out on top, outscoring Manteca 6-3 in the extra minutes.

Joanna Ortiz scored a game-high 16, while Lia Unterholzner had 11, including five in overtime, and grabbed eight boards.

Allison Armstrong had seven points and seven rebounds, and Stephanie Davis added six.

Karlesha Thompson paced the Baby Buffs with 10, and both Gabby Gaxiola and Mia Ramirez had nine.

“Manteca is a really good team,” Sierra head coach Steve Unterholzner said. “we feel fortunate to have pulled this one out.”

Sierra (10-2 VOL, 19-5 overall) travels to Oakdale Tuesday, while Manteca hosts Ceres.

East Union 62, Weston Ranch 31
Kristen Piasacki had 20 points, 10 rebounds and six steals as EU picked up the big win over the Cougars.

Destiny Bishop had eight points and four steals, and Allison Telles turned in seven points, seven steals and three offensive boards.

EU improved to 10-3 in VOL play with the win.
