CORRECTION & CLARIFICATION
Manteca Bulletin
• HISTORY ERROR: In Monday’s front page story on the history of the Manteca Fire Department, it was incorrectly stated that the Palace of Amusement was located “directly across from where Kelley Brothers Brewing Co. is located today.” That was another location that showed movies. The Palace of Amusement was located approximately where a parking lot is now located on the south side of Accent Carpets in the 100 block of North Main Street (called Hogan Road in the early days). All sorts of meetings were held there, as well as boxing matches, stage shows and dances. Its last use was as a storeroom for Mike’s Market. The 1920 fire did not start on the northeast corner of Main and Yosemite. Moore’s Grill was located on the north side of West Yosemite Avenue near the Odd Fellows Hall that still stands where it was built on the north side of West Yosemite Avenue in 1912.
• HEADLINE CONFUSION: In a front page story about Manteca’s Fourth of July celebration, the story was correct as it stated the city was shifting the fireworks and day-time celebration to July 3 to save money. The headline, though, was wrong as it said the opposite.
