It’s ice cream time! Manteca Historical Society & Museum is presenting its 23rd annual BBQ & Ice Cream Social at the Manteca Transit Center (Moffat Boulevard at Main Street) on Sunday, Sept. 13. Social starts at 2 p.m. and bountiful dinner at 3:30. There will be music by Second Chance Band, antique car show and a raffle. Advance tickets are $20 for adults, kids 12 and under $9. The historical society tonight at 7 p.m. is having Stanford University photography professor Robert Dawson who just published “The Public Library” — a photo essay collection of libraries in America — speak.

He will present photos and information about libraries and then discuss them.

Coffee and treats will be served after the free event at the museum, 600 W. Yosemite Ave.

Yee-haw! The Veterans of Foreign Wars Men’s Auxiliary’s annual Western Days are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 15, at Ripon VFW Post 1051, 12455 West Ripon Road. Salad bar and dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by a raffle and DJ. Tickets are $15 donation. For more details call 209.599.6815.

The American Legion Post 249 (220 E. Yosemite Avenue) is hosting a Prime Rib Dinner Fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m. Served will be a prime rib with all the fixings. Tickets are $15 apiece. If you would like to take advantage of this offer and support local veterans, please call 2nd Vice Commander Art Thompson at 209.328.5184. Funds raised during this dinner will help cover some of the Legion’s annual expenses.

It’s all about freestyle this weekend in Stockton! Two events will rock Downtown and bring you back in time and memories. Ten of the biggest Freestyle music legends of the 1980s will take the stage Friday, Aug. 14, at the Stockton Arena at 8 p.m. Perform at the Super Freestyle Explosion will be “The King of Freestyle” Stevie B., “The Queen of Freestyle” Lisa Lisa, Debbie Deb, JJ Fad and more. After one of the biggest concerts of the year is over, head over to the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel for its Freestyle Friday Takeover that starts at 9. It’s going to be a fun night!
