It’s time to read! Readers, writers and future writers will once again meet at the Great Valley Bookfest on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley (280 Lifestyle Rd., Manteca). A fun costume parade at 10 a.m. will kick off the event with author presentations, writers’ workshops and activities throughout the day. Don’t miss the Seek ‘n Stamp Scavenger Hunt for a chance to win a Samsung Galaxy 7” Tab 4 NOOK and the top three teams from the Sip and Spell adult spelling bee contest that will compete against each other in the ultimate spelling showdown at noon. Plus, Bulletin’s very own columnist Chris Teicheira will present his book Manteca to a T, sign copies and perform during Open Mic at 3 p.m.

If there was an award for the most unusual parish event, St. Anthony of Padua Parish School will definitely be the winner. Their 4th annual Tacos & Tequila fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, Oct.  9, from 6 p.m. to midnight in the gymnasium at 323 N. Fremont Ave. Enjoy live music from The Mike Torres Band, tacos plates from La Estrella with three tacos, rice, beans, chips and salsa, tequila, beer, margaritas and J-ello shots. Of course, you must be at least 21 years old to attend. All earnings from this fundraiser will directly supplement student enrichment programs that tuition and fees generally do not cover. Calling all superheroes! The Manteca Youth Advisory Commission invites all mothers (or aunts, grandmothers, etc.) to take their boys ages 3-15 on a crime-fighting night of fun at a Mother-Son Dance at the Manteca Senior Center (295 Cherry Lane) on Friday, October 9, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Enjoy appetizers, beverages and activities including dancing, games and contests. Come dressed in your favorite superhero costume, as there will be prizes for the best-dressed duos and trios. Reflections Photography will be on site and photos will be available for purchase.
