This is not going to be one of your usual afternoon tea socials.
At this festive event, the visual flavor enhancing the brew to be served promises a smorgasbord of colorful costumes from different countries of the world.

For their fifth annual scholarship tea fund-raiser this year on Sunday, April 18, the Manteca Federated Club members are encouraging those who plan to attend to come dressed in their favorite costume from another country in keeping with this year’s event theme, “Teatime Around the World.”

The public is invited to “an elegant afternoon of friends, elaborately decorated tables, tea, scones, finger sandwiches, and sweets prepared by members and served by our local youth groups.” The tea will be followed by an opportunity drawing for a wide array of donated big-ticket prizes. Tickets for the drawing will be available for purchase at the event.

The full-course tea and exotic costumes will not be the only major attractions at this fun afternoon gathering. The table settings will be a feast for the eyes as well, thanks to the creative talents of the Federated Club members.

Social and table viewing will begin at noon, with tea to be served promptly at 1 p.m. The event will be held at the Manteca Senior Center, 295 Cherry Lane just behind the Civic Center on West Center Street.

Tickets are $25 each for adults and $10 for children age 12 and younger.
There will be no tickets sold at the door; seating will be by pre-paid sales only. Tickets will be sold through Friday, April 1.

All proceeds will go to the cub’s scholarship fund. The club awards scholarships to deserving area high school graduates every year. The group has awarded tens of thousands of dollars throughout the half-century that the club has been in existence in Manteca when it was founded by the late Clarese Anderson.
