The Manteca Ministerial Association has not scheduled any community Good Friday service this year, but several churches in Manteca, Lathrop, and Ripon are offering prayerful observance opportunities in which area faithful can take part.

The services run the spiritual gamut – from a procession and Stations of the Cross at a chapel on Stockton Avenue in Ripon led by St. Patrick’s Church, a meditative evening at Calvary Community in Manteca, a meditation on the Seven Last Words at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Lathrop, and the annual Living Stations of the Cross at St. Anthony of Padua in Manteca presented by the students at St. Anthony’s School.

Below is a list and schedule of the Good Friday services at several area churches:

•Noon to 3 p.m. – procession, Station of the Cross and sacred music at St. Patrick’s Sacred Heart Chapel, 329 Stockton Avenue corner Third Street in Ripon

•St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Manteca  – “Living Stations of the Cross” starting at noon; solemn liturgy of the Lord’s passion in English, Veneration of the Cross at 1 p.m. followed by Holy Communion.

•Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Lathrop – the Seven Last Words, Station of the Cross and adoration of the Cross followed by Holy Communion starting at 1 p.m.

•St. Mary the Virgin (formerly St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on the corner of Louise and Cottage avenues in Manteca) – 6 p.m. Good Friday services.

•St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on East Highway 120 – Passion liturgy starting at 6 p.m.

•Calvary Community Church on East Lathrop Road in Manteca, 7 to 8 p.m. – Time of prayer and worship and communion with music “to meditate on His goodness and worship his greatness.”

Good Friday’s solemn observance will turn into great rejoicing on Sunday when Christians all over the world celebrate the high-water mark of their faith – the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday.
