RIPON — It didn’t take long for Ripon High’s baseball team to shake off the cobwebs from Wednesday’s 14-0 drubbing it took from Escalon..

The Indians got two-run singles from Zach Evans and Ryan Durrer during a six-run first inning, and pitcher Hayden Koch handled the rest in a 9-4 win over Riverbank Thursday.

“We only had 24 hours to get rid of (the Escalon loss) and did what we had to do,” Ripon coach Mitchell Evans said. “I’m pleased with the resiliency of the kids. They put it behind them and played solid baseball today.”

Riverbank (0-5 Trans Valley League, 0-12 overall) got on board first, running across one in the opening frame. But Koch took full control, striking out 10 to just one walk while yielding four hits in six innings.

Sophomore Jake McCreath allowed three runs in the seventh.

“Hayden settled in after that first inning and hit his spots,” coach Evans said. “His curveballs and fastballs were going for strikes, and when you get both of your pitches going you’re bound to get success.”

Koch helped his own cause offensively and was one of four to go 2 for 3, joining Alex Gustin, Matt Ratto and Zach Evans. Niko San Nicholas was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI to lead the way.

Ripon (3-2, 5-7) will next compete in the four-day Atwater Tournament starting with Moreau Catholic Tuesday.
