There isn’t anything slowing Manteca High when it comes to their dominance on the tennis court.

After making their way through the gauntlet of some of the Valley Oak League’s best’s teams earlier this month, Manteca head coach Frank Fontana had nothing but faith in his boys squad as they stepped onto the court Tuesday to take on longtime intracity rival East Union – handing the Lancers a crushing 4-1 team defeat to progress to 8-0 in league play as they prepare to enter the regular season
home stretch.

And there was even a little dash of sweet revenge.

While East Union’s No. 1 player Sean Hilscer handed Manteca’s No.1 Alex Darragan defeat in two straight sets – 7-5 and 6-4 – Manteca’s No. 2 Alex McAdams battled Ricky Peloso to a 2-6, 6-4, and 6-0 victory to settle the score. Manteca’s No. 3 Marc Leon downed East Union’s Steve Sheperd 6-2 and 7-5 to swing the momentum back into the Buffalo’s favor, and left it up the doubles teams to execute the only way they know how.

The Manteca duo to Max Angelo and Orel Nunis had little trouble putting away Chris Garcia and Matt Eichstend with a pair of 6-3 scores, and the Buffalo pair of Xavier Lopez and Marcus Munoz finally got their revenge over Ariel Rosste and Marcos Aleman with scores of 7-5 and 6-1 – avenging a loss from earlier this season.

“We came back refreshed from the break, and we’re playing really well together as a team right now,” Fontana said. “Right now we’re looking to continue the streak for the remainder of the season.

“We’ve had some good things happening lately, and I think that’s important at this time of the season. Alex (McAdams) was down in the second set and came back and battled and that was really huge for us today as a team.”

Manteca will next host Weston Ranch on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
