Manteca High was able to put together one of its more impressive rounds, but the Buffaloes still fell nearly 30 strokes shy of keeping pace with the East Union Lancers in Valley Oak League dual-match action Tuesday at Manteca Golf Course.

Will Brink led the charge for the Lancers, turning in a 1-over-par 38 for medalist honors. Kyle Harmon (41), Jordan Duval (42) and Tanner Bragg (43) came in behind Brink. Guillermo Barajas shot a 48 and teammate Dominic Riella rounded out the Lancers with a 52.

The Buffaloes were led by an impressive round from Kenny Summers, who turned in a 3-over-par round of 40. Teammate Nick Gonzales was right on his heels with a 43, while Casey Benson and Tim Baker both shot 52’s.

“Kenny and Nick did a good job of keeping up with East Union’s No. 1 and 2, which is not an easy task,” Manteca head coach David Fontanilla said. “This was one of our better team scoring efforts; we were able to stay away from the big numbers. We really are moving in the right direction.

“Good teams should make you play better and EU did just that for us.”

Davey Tolbert closed out nine holes in 53 shots and Derek Benson finished his round in 56.

Oakdale 182, Lathrop 296
FRENCH CAMP – The VOL leading Mustangs did not skip a beat, blowing past Lathrop High at French Camp Golf Course Tuesday.

Oakdale was led by co-medalist honors from Conner Gust and freshman Danny Wong.

Cedric Starling’s 49 followed by Kenneth Deguzman’s 54 led Lathrop (0-6). Jay Butler turned in a 60, Gilberto Duran shot a 66 and Tanner Treat (67) and Cory Baker (68) rounded out the Spartans’ scorecard.
