The Madness in the Mother Lode All-Star Extravaganza will kick off Saturday evening and Sierra High boys basketball head coach Scott Thomason is set to lead one of the large schools all-star teams and seven Valley Oak League standouts.

Thomason will be coaching an 18-man team including Sierra’s leading scorer Trevor Nouguiera. Nouguiera will team up with Gerry Cooper (Manteca), Ronnie Collins (Weston Ranch), Ricky Inderbitzin (East Union), Zach Gorgas (Sonora), Eric Sutton (Sonora) and Justin Cantasy (Ceres) of the VOL.
Their opponents will be made up of several VOL all-stars, including Ernie Pimentel (Manteca), Nate Moises (Weston Ranch), Tyler Bylow (East Union) and Vicente Navaro (Sonora).

Prior to the large schools contest there will be a small schools game giving some of the area’s smaller-enrolment school players another platform.

Standouts Steve Vander Molen (Ripon Christian) and Caleb Christian (Ripon) will team up for the small-schools home team, while Tyler Goslinga (Ripon Christian), Daniel Van de Pol (Ripon Christian), Matt Ratto (Ripon) and Kody Wengel(Ripon) join forces for the away squad.

Each player involved will be excited about the opportunity to play another game, but winning the contest will weigh heavily in each player’s mind.

“Obviously it is an honor to be able to coach another game this season,” Thomason said. “Hopefully we are able to make it fun for all the kids. My goal is to try and make sure that everybody plays. We have a lot of competitors on our team; we’ll definitely try and win the game.

“We want to have a good time and try and make sure nobody gets hurt.”

Action is set to get underway at 5 p.m. with the small school game, immediately followed by the large school contest. The extravaganza will take place on the Columbia College campus in the Oak Pavillion.
