RIPON – A 6-0 result in the two club’s first meeting was supposed to be the preface for Ripon Christian and Hughson High’s final match up of the season, but the Knights had other intentions, battling Hughson to a 3-1 Trans Valley League loss Wednesday.

Amanda Boersma notched the only Ripon Christian goal, but it broke up a scoreless streak that dated back two games for the Lady Knights.

“We feel that our improvement was an achievement despite the loss today,” Knights head coach Travis Haveman said. “The past two games were major losses and we had been unable to score until today.  Our attacks were there, and we had two near goals in the second half against the wind.

“We are proud to have now posted a respectable score with all of the competitors in the TVL.”

Boersma got on the board in the second-half, after Ripon Christian headed into the intermission with a 2-0 deficit. Beth Van Vliet handled the keeping duties, posting 10 saves in the loss.
