Sierra High’s sophomore baseball team recovered from a blowout loss to Oakdale Thursday to hand the Valley Oak League’s top club its first loss with a 10-9 victory in eight innings Friday at home.

The Timberwolves (8-3) were down 5-2 at one point and took a 9-5 lead, but Oakdale scratched across four runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie it.

Tim Thornton ended the game in the eighth, knocking in Jacob Castro with a base hit.

The win comes one day after taking an 11-2 loss to the Mustangs.

“It was an all-around good team effort,” Sierra coach Matt Anderson said. “We competed for all eight innings.”

Bret Wilson was 3 for 3 for Sierra, which rapped out 12 hits. Cory Rocha added a bases-clearing double in the third.
Mark Crane pitched the eighth inning for Sierra and picked up the win.
