East Union’s boys and girls track and field teams both moved to 4-2 in Valley Oak League duals after getting past rival Manteca in a make-up meet at home Friday.

The boys competition was tightly contested, with the Lancers prevailing, 76-58. The EU girls, on the other hand, nearly doubled their rival and won by an 82.5-44.5 margin.

“It was a tough meet; everything was close,” EU coach Todd Dunaway said. “Sean Hogan runs a great program at Manteca, but it’s always nice to beat your arch rival. They gave us great competition, and both groups of kids had a great time.”

Tevyn Braiden was the EU boys team’s top point producer, placing first in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the high jump. He was also on the second-place 4x100 relay team.

David Nguyen paced Manteca with first-place finishes in the long jump, triple jump and 400.

Alejandra Alvarez won two distance events (1,600, 3,200) and was third in the 800 to lead the Lady Lancers. Megan Jordan claimed the 800 as well as the 400. Jerrica Hauck took first in the pole vault and long jump.

East Union has another meet to make up against Lathrop and Sonora, but the focus will be on the VOL Championships set for May 3 at Sierra High.
