Two Modesto men died from their injuries following a collision with a tow truck on Moffat Boulevard Saturday noon — the driver, 24, reportedly passed away at the scene and the 23-year-old passenger succumbed at an area hospital, according to fire and police authorities.

Fire department responders used the Jaws of Life to extricate the passenger from the vehicle that reportedly appeared to have been modified for street racing. The driver was reportedly removed by the ambulance crew at the scene.

The fatal crash occurred during a rain storm, according to fire officials.

Witnesses said the vehicle was seen driving erratically prior to the crash southeast of the intersection with Woodward Avenue.

The white 2015 Subaru coupe was reportedly eastbound when it collided with a Manteca based tow truck driving westbound toward Woodward Avenue.

The tow truck driver was uninjured in the collision. The crash added to the two motorcycle fatalities that occurred on West Woodward Avenue some two weeks ago when the riders catapulted over a roundabout structure. Police said Saturday’s incident it didn’t appear to involve drugs or alcohol contributing to the deaths.
