Carrillo leads Lancers past Ceres with no-no

East Union’s Zach Carrillo came a base on balls and a hits batsman away from a perfect game, dominating the Ceres Bulldogs in a 7-0 Valley Oak League win for the Lancers Thursday.

East Union (11-3, VOL, 14-6 overall) twirled its second no-hitter in a week, getting seven innings of no-hit ball from Carrillo.

Joshua Bonds led the offensive onslaught, going 2 for 2 with a pair of runs scored. Robert Thompson was 2 for 3 with a two-RBI double, while Brock Swift drove home three in the win. The Lancers will be back on the diamond Tuesday when they meet up with the Sierra Timberwolves.

Oakdale 13, Manteca 7
OAKDALE – The Buffaloes feel behind 7-0 and battled back, tying the game up with a seven-run fourth inning before dropping the VOL contest.

Sal Pena smashed a two-run homer, while T.J. Galdo added a pair of doubles and drove in three.

East Union 1, Manteca 1
The Lancers trailed 1-0, but found a way to sneak away with a VOL tie, when they landed a penalty kick with less than five minutes remaining Thursday at Manteca.

Suzy Saldate was the hero for East Union, sending home a penalty kick awarded when Macie Hughes was fouled inside the 18-yard line.

Joanna Maxwell made good on an assist from Amara Michaelis in the 61st minute, giving the Buffaloes the pseudo lead.
