EU pitchers dominate in Waterford Tournament

MODESTO — East Union’s 1-2 punch in the pitcher’s circle shined on opening day of the Waterford Tournament hosted at Rainbow Fields on Thursday.
The Lancers started with a 7-0 win over Los Banos, which Delaney Pamplin torched for 10 strikeouts in a two-hitter. Then it was Mikayla Bongi’s turn to dominate, as she dominated Gregori in a 9-1 victory. Bongi fired 17 strikeouts and scattered four hits.
East Union got the bats going in Game 1, stroking 11 hits with six of them going for doubles. Danyelle Godoy (double, run, RBI) and Allie Tajii (double, two runs) each went 2 for 3.
Alexis Erich carried the hottest back against Gregori, going 4 for 4 with a double and four RBIs. Kristina Mojica (double), Shelby Cefalu (run) and Tajii (run) each went 2 for 4, and Izabella Owen plated three runs.
East Union continues tournament tonight against Beyer at 4:45 and Atwater at 6:30.

RIPON — The Knights (2-2) rallied for five runs in the third inning to blow it open, tagging four of their total nine hits in Thursday’s nonleague contest.
Emily Van Vliet and Nikki Berghorst had two hits each. Starting pitcher Katie O’Leary collected six strikeouts and Sarah Brown had two in relief with the Knights playing perfect defense behind them.

Alannah Harnden smashed a two-run homer in the first, finishing with three RBIs and three runs.
Marissa Moon added two singles and an RBI to go with two runs. Harnden also pitched all five innings, striking out 10 in the mercy-shortened no-hitter.
