MJC offers spring string recital

MODESTO —  Modesto Junior College presents a Spring String Recital on Friday, April 7, at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall – Music 108 on the East Campus, 435 College Avenue, Modesto.  Admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted.

The program features the students of Anne Martin, director of orchestra and strings at MJC, performing solo works by Bach, Breval, Dvorak, Mozart and Roggen.  The program opens with the elementary strings class playing the Indian Lament and Boil that Cabbage Down. 

The recital includes the String Orchestra presenting works by Handel and Morley and playing arrangements of an Irish folk song, For the Star of County Down, and Guadalajara, a traditional Mexican song.  

The evening includes a special guest from Portland, Oregon, Anthony Houth, performing several movements of a Hindemith sonata.  

The students are accompanied by pianist Wesley Richmond.
