Daza’s single leads Lancaster to win over Nuts

MODESTO (AP) — Yonathan Daza hit a two-run single in the fifth inning, leading the Lancaster JetHawks to a 9-5 win over the Modesto Nuts on Wednesday.

The single by Daza started the scoring in a six-run inning and gave the JetHawks a 5-3 lead. Later in the inning, Roberto Ramos and Hamlet Marte hit two-run singles.

In the bottom of the eighth, Modesto cut into the lead on a home run by Logan Taylor that scored Joey Curletta.

Modesto missed a scoring opportunity in the seventh, when Eric Filia flew out with the bases loaded to end the inning.

Wes Rogers doubled and singled, scoring two runs for Lancaster.

Lancaster right-hander Craig Schlitter (6-0) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing three runs on five hits over six innings. Opposing starter Pablo Lopez (2-4) took the loss in the California League game after a rough outing in which he allowed eight runs and eight hits over 4 2/3 innings.
