Manteca’s spring fair is at a crossroads.

The street fair – now in its 14th year – draws crowds in excess of 30,000 people during the first weekend in April.

The Manteca Convention & Visitors Bureau is launching a two-year strategy to “take it to the next level.”

This year during April 3-4 the Manteca Crossroads Street Fair will expand farther to the east down Yosemite Avenue.

There will be craft booths in the 100 block of East Yosemite Avenue where Kelley Brothers is located just as there was last year.

A kids’ zone with games and rides stretching along the next block where the PG&E office is located will be part of this year’s street fair. The next block where you can find the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory will have a car show. The fourth block – in front of the Manteca High campus - will have a recreational vehicle show.

That’s just for this year.

The CVB is exploring the possibility of shutting down the 100 block of North Main Street for a “Taste of Manteca” tent event and/or a demonstration tent for the 2010 street fair.

“It would offer a taste of things made here in Manteca – the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Kelley Brothers’ beer, Delicato wine, farm products and such,” said street fair chairman Chuck Crutchfield.

CVB Executive Director Linda Abelt is already making inquiries to see what level of interest they would be in local businesses and farms showcasing Manteca products. Another possibility is a demonstration tent. Crutchfield said that could involve things such as free hourly demonstrations by nurseries on how to prune roses to home improvement tips and demonstrations to cooking demonstrations.

Booth spaces start at $180 for a standard 12 – by 10-foot area. Those securing a space after March 1 are subject to a $40 late charge.

No single day booths are allowed.
