Advances to consolation final for Juniors

Northgate’s Danny Peters is safe at second ahead of the tag by Manteca’s Fred Cruz on Sunday in a 21-11 Northgate consolation win in the District 67 Juniors All-Star Tournament at Agostini Field.

Pitching was tough to come by Saturday for both Northgate and Manteca on Sunday as the two teams combined for 27 walks in a 21-11 five-inning mercy-shortened consolation win for Northgate in the District 67 Juniors All-Star Tournament at Agostini Field. 

Charlie Sanders came off the bench for Northgate and stepped into the leadoff slot, going 3 for 3 with two runs. Jacob Toste was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Evan Jeffery walked and scored three times, singling once and Nolan Calmes walked three times, scoring once and notched an RBI. 

Trace Buffalow was 3 for 3 for Manteca, scoring three times and walking once. Quino Gurrola reached base and scored three times, going 2 for 3. Leadoff batter Sammy Veuve got a hit, walked twice and scored three times and Fred Cruz walked and scored twice. 

Northgate plays Tracy in the consolation final this afternoon at 5:30. 

 

Spreckels Park 4, 

Northgate 2

The cross-town rivals started off the tournament Saturday and Spreckels Park posted two runs in the seventh inning to get the win.

Jackson Brunn singled to start the seventh for Spreckels Park and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Spencer Kim. Mikey Elder singled in Brunn and came in to score on an error off the bat of Jacob Lopez. 

Sonny Elder singled in the fifth inning for Spreckels Park and worked his way around to score on a passed ball to come within 2-1. Spreckels Park tied the game in the sixth when Lopez singled and scored on a double by Zach Fonseca (2 for 3, double, RBI). 

Northgate got its two runs in the the second inning. Dylan Stokes singled, took second on Zach McCasland’s sacrifice bunt and gave Northgate runners at the corners when Danny Peters singled. 

Jeffery singled in Stokes and Ryan Vanarsdell – who was running for Peters – was singled in by Austin Orr. 

Spreckels Park and will play in the championship game Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against the winner of this afternoon’s 5:30 contest between Northgate and Tracy.
