Raul Mora was wearing neon on Friday and for good reason.

The East Union High principal was gearing up for the Black Light Rally held annually in the large gym otherwise known as the Dalben Center.

“We’ve been doing it every year since I’ve been principal,” said Mora, who is in his fourth year of Leading the Lancers.

The school has an early enrollment of about 1,700.

Mora is once again helped out by Assistant Principal Megan Peterson and Vice Principal Aracely Sandoval, who came aboard in December.

During the Black Light Rally, the gym is pitched dark with black lights bringing out the neon colors.

Another feature to this afterschool event is the senior walk-in, Mora said.

He added that this year had gone rather smoothly thus far. “We have a spirited freshmen class,” Mora said.

Included is Baylee Pine, who is ranked No. 2 nationally in baton twirling and No. 4 internationally. The Lancers’ ninth grader was scheduled to perform at the Black Light Rally.

East Union will be having Back to School Night on Wednesday, beginning at 5 o’clock in the outdoor quad.

The various clubs and vendors will begin setting up booths for fundraising and providing membership information.

The school band will also perform.

From 6 to 7, parents can visit the classrooms, following the schedule of their student.
