Gregg Elliott is proud to be a Mustang.
That’s the mascot for Ripona Elementary School.
The new principal at the Ripon Unified kindergarten- through- eighth- grade site is back to his Central Valley roots.
“My wife and I have family in Sonora and Elk Grove,” said Elliott, who was previously principal at a K-5 school in the San Mateo and Foster City area.
Prior to that, he worked in Livermore and Modesto City Schools districts.
“It’s been wonderful here at Ripona,” Elliott said. “Ripon is a fantastic community.”
At Ripona, he’s enjoyed visiting the classrooms and becoming acquainted with students, teachers and staff.
At last count, the school enrollment was 419.
“I’m quickly learning their names,” said Elliott, who has smoothly transitioned to his new environment. “I’ve had a feeling of being welcomed as their new principal.”
His career in education includes 12 years as a teacher and 13 as an administrator.
Elliott earned his teaching credentials at National University.
He also has a Masters in Education from the University of La Verne and a Masters in Curriculum and Instructions at Brandman University.
A native of Sonora, Elliott attended Mother Lode Christian School in Tuolumne City.
His family still lives in Sonora.
“It’s great being back here and close to my roots,” he said.
