Manteca Police dogs are credited with keeping officers and the public safe while at the same time augmenting law enforcement on the streets with invaluable back-up.
Much of the expense for the dogs that go through extensive training are picked up by the officer involved and not city taxpayers.
Their personal financial burden is eased by citizens and non-profit organizations stepping up to help defray the costs of training, outfitting, and medical care for the dogs.
It is why the Manteca Kiwanis and the American Legion Post 249 have teamed up to stage a benefit dinner this Saturday, Sept. 23, for the Manteca Police K-9 Unit.
A chicken taco diner with rice beans, and a drink takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 220 E. Yosemite Ave., in downtown Manteca. Tickets are $15 for the dinner that includes live entertainment.
For further information or to buy tickets call Ben Cantu at 209.679.5024. If you are interested in volunteering or making a donation instead of buying a ticket, contact Darryl Shaw at 559.362.3628.
