The most interesting item on “the menu” at tonight’s 7 p.m. Manteca Planning Commission meeting has been bumped until Oct. 24.
The agenda item is a site plan and minor use permit for a fast food drive-thru on the northeast corner of East Yosemite Avenue and Northwoods Avenue where the Super Buffet Chinese restaurant is located in the former coffee shop opened years ago by Brawley’s that then became Jimmy’s Restaurant prior to Super Buffet.
The name of the fast food place hasn’t been disclosed. But if a fast food places does locate there within a half block of the Highway 99/East Highway 120 interchange that is the gateway to Sierra destinations, it would mean Yosemite/Northwoods/Commerce would be the first intersection in Manteca with three fast food restaurants. McDonald’s as well as In ’n’ Out Burger is already located there. It also would mean they’ll be eight fast food places within a block of the interchange — Wendy’s Carl’s Jr, Panda Express, Jack-in-the-Box, and El Pollo Loco are the others.
If you toss in other dining options as far west as Applebee’s, there are 19 food-related businesses making it the highest concentration of dining spots in Manteca. Go as far west as the Food-4-Less center and the number jumps to 27.
Get ready for
Manteca’s 14th
car wash
Work has started on Manteca’s 14th car wash and third AM/PM Mini Mart.
The ARCO AM/PM gas station, convenience store, and self-serve drive-thru car wash is being built on Daniels Street next to the Taco Bell and McDonald’s and north of the Sizzler’s restaurant in the Stadium Square Development at Airport Way and the 120 Bypass.
The 3,015-square-foot convenience store along with eight fuel pump islands under a canopy, and a 925-square-foot self-serve car wash with vacuum station and 15 parking spaces will be on the southwest corner of the traffic signals at Fishback Road and Daniels Street.
The project known as Manteca Petroleum is being pursued by Gurden Singh Teer, Ranhett Singh, and Vikramhet Singh of Tracy.
Initial work has also started on Manteca’s third Chevron gas station and Food Mart combination on the west side of North Main Street just north of Lancaster Drive on a parcel between the Robert E. Goodwin Community School and the Manteca Moose Lodge.
It will consist of 12 gas pumps under a canopy and a 3,700-square-foot building that includes the convenience store and a suite of 1,728 square feet to be rented for retail purposes. The project also includes a second building proposed for 5,858 square feet of retail space in four suites.
The 13 existing car washes do not count Fleet Wash. The specialty wash firm is based in the Manteca Industrial Park provides mobile service for truck fleets and other commercial ventures.
