DENAIR — After scoring just one goal in five nonleague contests, the Ripon Christian girls soccer team broke through in its Southern Athletic League opener Monday at Denair.

Four different Knights scored in the 4-1 victory, and the five-time defending champions ran their unbeaten league streak to 51 games in the process.

Rachel Oosterman kick started the barrage for Ripon Christian (1-0-0, 2-4-0 overall) in the fourth minute, finishing off a cross delivered by Bethany Silveira. Silveira struck for her own goal in the 10th minute after receiving a pass from Janine Prins.

The Knights continued to pour on the pressure, and one minute later Kayla Stuit lofted a 35-yard direct kick over the Denair keeper. Brittany Bloemhof capped it off with five minutes remaining in the opening half.

Denair (0-1-0, 2-2-0) converted on a free kick in the 52nd minute to get on board, but Ripon Christian goalie Emma Cormier (eight saves) and the defense held on for the win. The Knights host Delhi on Wednesday.

TRACY — Anthony Garcia scored four goals for the host Wolf Pack (4-3).

Manteca (3-3) didn’t find the net until late in the second half when Brian Sanchez scored off a feed from Paulo Noriega. The Buffaloes’ final tune-up for Valley Oak League play is on Thursday against Chavez of Stockton at home. First-year coach Daniel Guevara said he did not start with his normal lineup Monday.

“It was a little rough, but it gave me a chance to see other players in action with more playing time,” he said. “They still played pretty well.”
