MODESTO — It took a record night from Lea Anderson for Grace Davis to ward off a valiant effort from Sierra on Tuesday.
The senior guard set a single-game program record with 60 points, scoring 23 of them from the free-throw line in the 71-59 win for the Spartans.
After scoring just 17 points in the opening half, Sierra (3-3) got back into the game with an 18-point outburst in the third quarter and 24 in the fourth. The Timberwolves had to work through early foul trouble before getting untracked.
Sophomore Natalie Dias led the Timberwolves with 19 points, and freshman Jordan Hayter added 14 while knocking down a pair of 3s. Raiann Prieto and Lindsey Walljasper chipped in nine each.
“After every game we discuss the things we need to get better at — tonight was no different,” Sierra coach Larissa Founts-Bergerson said. “We will continue to work hard and get ready for league. I could not be more proud of the way we battled on the court. We have heart, and that’s the most fun to coach.”
Sierra plays host to unbeaten Ripon on Thursday.

Tracy 59, East Union 56
TRACY — The early-season struggles continued for the Lancers (1-4), who tried to battle back from a 17-9 deficit
They did well to give themselves a chance in the end but made just six of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter. Tracy (2-3) was 9 of 10 from the foul line down the stretch.
“Another tough night,” said East Union coach Jim Agostini, whose team has los three games by less than five points. “We’re not doing enough to win these close games right now, but hopefully we can learn from experience.”
Donja Payne produced 20 points and 16 rebounds for EU. Julia Vezaldenos, Hailey Gosney and Kayla Montoya chimed in with eight apiece. Izzie Valdez and Alyissa Escobar scored 21 and 18, respectively, for Tracy.

Sierra 41,
 Grace Davis 33
MODESTO — Elise Peterson paced the Timberwolves with 12 points, and Madi Boyd contributed with 10. Nicole Balay and Manjot Chahal added six each.
