Baljeet Gill, 23, was arrested by Manteca Police undercover officers on Monday for communicating with a minor for sexual purposes.
Detectives were conducting a routine search of online personal ads as part of their effort to combat sexual exploitation of children and human trafficking.  During that search they located an ad that seemed to be soliciting young females for sex.
A detective posed as an underage female and contacted the person posting the ad.  Police said suspect made sexually explicit comments and arranged to meet the detective for sex. Officers responded leaving the impression that the suspect would be meeting the underage female. When a suspect arrived, he was arrested and booked at the San Joaquin County Jail for communicating with a minor for sexual purposes, police said.
Gill is being held in lieu of $350,000 bail in the San Joaquin County Jail with a scheduled court date today at 1:30 p.m. in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court.
Manteca Police are hoping parents are aware that human trafficking is a serious issue.
In 2016, a then 15-year-old Manteca was coerced into sex and then transported to San Luis Obispo where she was sexually exploited by four men serving as pimps who were later arrested and convicted.
The Manteca Police Department is encouraging parents to maintain open communication with their children about the dangers of predators on line and to be aware of their children’s online activities.  Police are also asking that any underage females who have been contacted by Gill for a sexual purpose to contact the MPD detectives at 209-456-8101.
