Jamille Grady threw the first pitch of Monday’s Spreckels Park Little League minor division championship game at Brock Elliot School, and it was fittingly he who recorded the final out.

The lefty threw a four-inning masterpiece for the Phillies, striking out nine while giving up four hits, one walk and no runs in their 5-1 victory over the Angels.

The Angels forced Monday’s “if necessary” game by winning the first title-round matchup Sunday. The Phillies are the last Little League team from Manteca to punch its ticket to Saturday’s District 67 Tournament of Champions opening round.

Mason James, nursing a 2-1 Phillies lead when he came in to pitch in relief in the fifth inning, earned the save. On the game’s final play, he fielded a grounder toward the mound and fired it to first where Grady played over the final two frames.

James battled through a rough fifth inning in which he walked in a run, but he got out of the bases-loaded jam with an infield fly and one of his three strikeouts. J.T. Martinez plated the Angels’ lone run with Hunter Frisk drawing a full-count walk for the RBI.

The first two Phillies runs were unearned against Angels starter Dylann Heath. Jesse Babuata reached on an error in the second and was driven in by Matthew Perapatto’s fielder’s choice in the second, and Cody Horne scored in the third after an infield error.

The Phillies erupted in the fifth for three insurance runs on six hits.

Grady led off with a single and advanced to second on an outfield error. Sam Buxa then smacked a double down the first-base line to drive him in. Christopher Contreras and Babauta followed with back-to-back RBI doubles on consecutive pitches.

Philly Cameron Ceja was the lone multi-hit performer of the game, going 2 for 3.
