An abandoned rear house at 134 Oak Street sustained an estimated $20,000 in damage in a Thursday night fire, according to Randy May, Manteca Fire Department division chief.

Loss to the contents was listed at $500.Firemen were dispatched shortly before 8:30 p.m. to the Oak Street address where they found a garage on the alley that had been converted into a three bedroom living quarters with a large volume of flame coming from the front door.

Firefighters made entry and extinguished the fire within just a few minutes, however the entire interior of the structure received fire damage.

Fire investigators discovered several different locations where the fire had been intentionally set, according to Chief May.

The front house on the property had been boarded up by the city in December after a fire had been set in the basement of that structure.  A sign on the front lawn of the residence indicated that the house had been listed on the auction block recently.
