We Set Fire on Friday managed to turn the Main Street Café (which is actually located on W. Yosemite Ave.) into Manteca’s newest all-ages music spot.

And all that they had to do was put up a MySpace or Facebook posting that circulated around their group of friends and led to a large mass of teenagers waiting outside once the building had reached its capacity.

It was family and friends during the first of their two thunderous sets which included music from their current alum (Deliverance) as well as a yet-to-be-titled album they finished just before gearing up to play their first show in Manteca since January.

And with the addition of new drummer Logan Culis, the band wasted no time in launching into a myriad of precisely timed heavy Christian metal tracks that kept everyone on the edge of their seat.

Mike Higuera’s position as the lead maestro – kicking the cues to the other band members to launch into a riotous guitar solo or a thundering cymbal crash – only made the guitar core of Randy Greer and Josh Stoner sound that much better.

On one track, Stoner’s opening riff set the pace for the entire song, while Greer took the time to solo at the end while jumping on and off a reverb amp sitting in the front of the crowd.

Outside, the rock kids just kept showing up and passed the time before their turn inside by tossing around a football and grabbing a quick soda at the neighboring gas station – seemingly unaware that it was still 90 degrees outside at the time.

With a new album already complete and in the bag, it’s easy to see where these kids could make a big impact locally as their steady fan base support continues to grow.

It’s the kind of music that seems to all come together at the end, and maybe that’s something that’ll happen for We Set Fire.
