RIPON – Stephanie Hobbs is hoping that the community will literally run for the chance to have a state-of-the-art athletic facility.
Efforts are currently underway to organize “Rina’s Run” – a 5K run andwalk and a 10K run being held on May 9 in honor of the late Rina Brochinni on a course that begins at Ripon High School before winding its way through a portion of town.
It’s an event, Hobbs says, that organizers of the Ripon Community Athletic Fund – of which she is the President – are hoping will not only help raise money for the Stouffer Field revitalization project but also boost awareness within the community.
“Right now we’re focusing on the run and hoping to have a good turnout there,” Hobbs said. “It’s going to be a top-notch event, and we’re looking forward to seeing how many people come out and participate.”
With sponsors like Fleet Feet Athletics and professional timing services being provided by On Your Mark Events, Rina’s Run will be a combination of serious runners and those looking to participate to support what has become a growing community focal point.
And sponsorship for both the run and the revitalization effort are already growing steadily.
Just last week McManis Family Vineyards donated $1,000 to the project, and Bob Brochinni also donated a $5,000 check that will also help with the massive undertaking necessary to transform Ripon’s only public stadium into a state-of-the-art facility that will be able to hold up to the massive amounts of use it gets during the year-round sports seasons.
But they’re far from reaching their goal.
Hobbs encourages anyone wishing to make a donation – either a monetary gift or an in-kind donation that will help offset the cost – to visit the organization’s website at An architect’s rendering of what the field will look like, along with contact information, are listed on the site.
