The varsity Ripon Chiefs rolled to a 3-0 record in the Trans Valley Youth Football League behind solid all-around play in their 36-0 drubbing of the Salida Steelers at Salida Middle School Saturday.

Just minutes into the contest, the Chiefs already had an 18-0 lead thanks to their quick-striking ability on offense coupled with some big plays on defense and special teams that gave them short fields to work with.

Nick Price scored the first of his three touchdowns on Ripon’s opening drive, reeling in a 10-yard touchdown pass from QB Dwight Jackson on a broken play. Nick Sharp nailed the 2-point conversion kick.

After forcing a three-and-out, Ripon defensive end Trent Murphy blocked Salida’s ensuing punt to set the offense up in the red zone. Price rushed in a 10-yard touchdown scamper up the middle, and Sharp’s second conversion kick made it 18-0.

The Steelers mishandled the kickoff and were forced to start their next series on their own 1. That allowed Sharp to pounce from the defensive side for a safety and a 20-0 lead. With possession back in the hands of the Chiefs, Nick Navarro scored Ripon’s next touchdown on a 10-yard screen play. Jackson later hooked up with Mateo Hernandez and Price for his third and fourth TD passes of the contest.

Defensive linemen Ricardo Martin, Cody Haines and Daelon Arriola dominated the line of scrimmage for Ripon.
