It will be up to the four-time defending champion East Union Lancers to motivate themselves at moments during this Valley Oak League season, and the group responded with a relatively easy win over the Manteca Buffaloes Thursday at Manteca Park Golf Course.

East Union (2-0) cruised to victory, getting a medalist-honors performance from Frances Telles who shot a 44, followed by junior Jenny Ketner’s 46.

“We had a long talk with the team about not getting too complacent,” East Union head coach Dennis Wells said. “We stressed to them about having something to shoot for in each match.

“As a team, I think we are 10-shots higher than we should be, so we are going to make practice a little more intense starting tomorrow.”

Jillian Goulart shot a 48, as did teammate Salina Tiscareno, and Angelique Cardoza rounded out the Lancers’ top-5 with a 50. Kailee Nudding shot a 59 for East Union’s sixth score.
Manteca (0-2) was led by Mickey Dias’ round of 49, followed by a 59 turned in by Brooke Mejorado.

Ripon 168, Linden 187
The Indians got a superb round from No. 2 Haylee Fannin, who earned medalist honors with a 35 in Ripon’s 19-stroke win over the Linden Lions Thursday at Jack Tone Golf Course.

Fannin, who is a sophomore, closed the par-31 course four over, finishing a stroke in front of Sam Conway for the day’s low round. Ripon’s Sienna Starck shot a 47, while teammate Megan Talbot turned in a round of 50.

“I’m pretty glad with how things are going for our team,” Ripon head coach Eric Dambrosio said. “Our No. 1 and No. 2 played throughout the summer and their games are reflecting that. Sienna shot a good score today and she is only a freshman.

“I’m hoping we can continue to improve and we should do pretty well.”
