It didn’t take Ripon Christian long to get past Waterford Thursday night to open its first Southern League match of the season on an extremely high note.

The Knights managed to piece together games of 25-10, 25-10, and 25-11 to down the host Wildcats in three, improving their overall record to 10-4.

Leading the charge for the Knights was Emily Leahy with five kills and three blocks, Brittany Petlansky with 10 digs, and Michelle Terpstra with 5 aces.

“They are a very young team, and we just came off a long two weeks against schools like St. Mary’s and Rocklin, so our girls were finely tuned and ready to go,” Ripon Christian head coach Tiger Shelton said. “We changed lineups completely throughout the game, but it was a good start for us in the Southern League. We’re looking forward to a hard year.”

Non-league
Ripon 3, Turlock 0
Ripon kept rolling through its non-league schedule Thursday night by downing Turlock in three straight games.

After jumping out to a 25-22 victory in the first game, Ripon kept up the pressure with a 25-20 second game and won a hard fought match-game with a 29-27 victory to improve their record to 12-1.

Leading Ripon was Cheyann DePrue with 22 kills and four blocks, followed by the 12 kills or Coryn Hernandez and the 14 digs of Paulina Ceja. Paige Burrell also recorded 10 digs, and Kelsey Johnston racked up 39 assists in the three games.

“They got it done, but they were a little bit flat,” Ripon head coach Larry Keethe said. “We served well and we set well, but overall our play was just a little bit flat. But we ended up playing better and we pulled it out.”
