Ripon Christian coasts to 12th straight victory

Ripon Christian’s first stint through the Southern League has become as routine as bumping, setting and spiking.

The Knights swept their sixth straight SL opponent Tuesday, defeating visiting Gustine — 25-9, 25-15, 25-10. The win was also their 12th straight overall, a streak that began on Sept. 10 during the San Luis Obispo Invitational.

Ripon Christian (6-0, 15-4 overall) was led by setter Michelle Terpstra’s nine aces and 20 assists. Twins Morgan and Mikaela Alger led the front row with 10 kills and two blocks, respectively. Brittany Petlansky finished with seven digs.

Ripon Christian caps the first half of the SL season Thursday at Mariposa.

Valley Oak League
Sierra 3, Kimball 0
In Tracy, the Timberwolves (3-3, 7-4) set up Thursday’s important rivalry match with East Union with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-14 victory.

Sarah Konecny recorded six kills and 19 digs to pace Sierra. Chelsea Bereta tallied six aces.

Sonora 3, East Union 0
In Sonora, EU (3-3, 6-5) hung tough with the VOL’s co-leader despite the sweep (22-25, 18-25, 20-25).

Brittany LaMar’s three kills and five digs led the way.

Oakdale 3, Weston Ranch 0
At Weston Ranch, the visiting Mustangs (6-0, 9-3) had too much firepower for the third-place Cougars (4-2, 8-3) in a 25-14, 25-15, 25-13 win.

Weston Ranch couldn’t muster much offense, with Julia Olaya’s two kills leading the team. Zelon Lane had three blocks. Jackee Lee had 23 assists for Oakdale, while Mackenzie Willett and Justina Keith hammered six kills apiece.

Sophomore
Sonora 2, East Union 1
East Union dropped a heartbreaker after winning the first game decisively, 25-14. Sonora came back to claim the next two, 25-17 and 15-1.

Regina Dias tallied four service aces, Kianna Lamont finished with six digs and Kayla Lamont handed out seven assists.
