East Union High has been so dominant this year that next week’s Valley Oak League Championships is merely a formality. Even a third-place finish would be enough to clinch the girls golf powerhouse its fourth straight title.

On Thursday, the Lancers completed yet another perfect run through the regular season, their fourth straight to be exact, with a 227-298 win over rival Sierra at Manteca Park Golf Course’s front nine.

Adding to East Union’s ever-expanding legacy of the 2000s was its 60th consecutive dual-match victory in VOL play, a streak that began in 2006. The Lancers are also aiming to capture their fifth straight Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV championship.

East Union (12-0) had three players share medalist honors: Jillian Goulart, Frances Telles and Jenny Ketner all posted 7-over scores of 44. Angelique Cardoza was a stroke away from joining the party, while Salina Tiscareno finished with a 50.

“Having the girls shoot in the mid-40s, we’re pretty happy with that,” EU co-head coach Dennis Wells said. “We know what we can get out of the girls at this point, and right now we’re getting ready for sections. We don’t have them exactly where we need them, because at sections we’re going up against some pretty good teams like Union Mine.”
Sierra (4-8) also had reason to celebrate.

Decimated by graduation losses over the past few seasons, the rebuilding Timberwolves shot their best team score of the year at Manteca Park Golf Course Thursday.

Allison Smith led the way with a 55 and was followed by Elia Vazquez’s 56, Jessica Lewis’ 58, Kianna Nelson’s 64 and Melanie Kiesel’s 66.

The VOL tournament is set for a 10:30 a.m. tee time Tuesday at Lockeford Springs Golf Course in Lodi.

At Jack Tone Golf Course, Ripon capped its impressive regular season at 10-2 and was led by sophomore Haylee Fannin’s 6-over 37.

Sam Conway finished with a 42, Destiny Franco a 44 and Megan Talbot a 46.

For RC (1-11), Jenny Wickham placed second with a 39. Also contributing were: Raeann De Rousse (48), Kayla Sikkema (49) and Makayla Sipma (49).

The VFL-North tournament is on Monday at Manteca Park Golf Course with a shotgun start scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

Ripon stands a good chance at advancing to the SJS Division V Tournament with a strong showing. Coach Eric Dambrosio is proud of his team’s consistent improvement since finishing winless in his first year back in 2007. The Indians have since gone 1-11 in 2008 and 6-6 in 2009.

“It’s pretty amazing what those girls have accomplished in four short years,” he said.
