It was business as usual for the Ripon Christian volleyball team, as they remained perfect through their first trip in the Southern League, handling Denair High with ease in a 3-0 win Monday.

The Knights (10-0 SL, 19-4 overall) likely had something to prove after being named the No. 1 team in Division-V in the first installment of the 2010 Volleyball Power Rankings from the Sac-Joaquin Section office.

Michele Terpstra got Ripon Christian going in a hurry, guiding her team to an unheard of 23-0 game one opening run on their way to a 25-3, 25-12 and 25-17 win over the Coyotes. Terpstra served five aces in the first game and ended the contest with a game-high 13.

“She was serving pretty confident,” Ripon Christian head coach Tiger Shelton said. “She is one of the better servers in the state. This is her second 20-plus point serving drill that she’s had this season.

“She’s had 15 aces in a game and 18 in another; she has been just drilling people with aces.”

Teammate Brittany Petlansky led the club with eight digs, and Andie Shelton chipped in with eight kills at the net. Terpstra also dished out 18 assists to go with the baker’s dozen in aces.

The Knights are looking to finish an impressive run through the SL without a blemish, but they will need to get by Turlock Christian before finishing the deal. Ripon Christian will get some work in a challenging tournament this weekend, giving the group one last tune-up effort before opening the first stages of a lengthy postseason run.

“The goal is to win as many banners as we can,” Shelton said. “That has always been our goal, but we have always had this team in red jerseys across the street that has always given us problems for the first banner.

“We’ve always been OK on the second banner.”

Ripon Christian will look to make it 11-straight when they travel to Turlock to meet up with the Turlock Christian Eagles at 6:30 p.m.
