The Weston Ranch Cougars’ downward spiral continued as they were swept by the East Union Lancers Thursday in Valley Oak League play.

Weston Ranch failed to get anything going against the Lancers, falling in three 25-17, 25-16 and 25-9. East Union got an inspired effort from Taylor Maruca, who turned in a career-high in assists with 26.

“Tonight, the girls really did perform,” Lancer head coach Eryn Bowers said. “They pushed one another to do their best.”

Brittany Lamar added nine blocks and eight kills, and teammate Starla Beltran finished with seven kills.

The Lancers will try and continue their winning ways when they travel to Oakdale to take on the Mustangs Tuesday. Weston Ranch will try and get things figured out in a home match against Sierra High.

Sonora 3, Lathrop 0
Lathrop High battled valiantly in the opening game, but the defeat drained the club in a 3-0 loss to Sonora Thursday.

The Spartans dropped the VOL match 25-20, 25-13 and 25-11 at Lathrop High.

“I’ve seen great improvement since the beginning of the season,” Lathrop head coach Nicole Unrein said. “It’s a good feeling to know that my team has developed and grown in this short period of time.”

Lathrop was led by Janel Butler’s 11 assists and Cecelia Lopez’ nine digs and five kills. Britney Rallios also pulled out 15 digs.

The Spartans will try and get back in the win column Tuesday when they take on Kimball High.

Southern League
Ripon Ch. 3, Turlock Ch. 0
It was business as usual for the Knights, continuing their dominance with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-23 win over Turlock Christian Thursday.

“I was definitely pleased with our girls,” Ripon Christian head coach Tiger Shelton said. “They played really well, the first two games especially.

“The third game we kind of let down, but that was to be expected.”

The victory will likely assure Ripon Christian (11-0 SL, 20-4 overall) a portion of the Southern League title in its first season.

The Knights will be back on the court Tuesday when they play host to Denair High.

East Union 2, W. Ranch 0
The Lancers made quick work of the Cougars, stopping them 25-10 and 25-19 in VOL action Thursday.

Alexis Steele turned in a game-high 16 kills, while teammate Kianna Lamont added 16 digs. Kayla Lamont made good on 13 assists, and Steele also had a pair of blocks in the win.
