Weston Ranch slipped to a 42-0 first half deficit amidst heavy rains at The Corral at Oakdale High on Friday. When the downpour subsided, the Cougars regained their footing with a pair of exciting touchdowns before falling in a 42-14 defeat.

“Oakdale is one of the top tier teams, and you have to come out ready to play against a team like that,” Weston Ranch coach Mike Hale said. “They have got some horses, and we were not able to run with those guys tonight.”

Oakdale runners saw big holes pave way for 405 rushing yards, with Mustang backs Daniel Linder and Marcus Hernandez nabbing a combined 359 yards from scrimmage in the first two quarters.

The Cougars finished with 233 total yards, 155 from the likes of running backs Donnell Simms (nine rushes, 38 yards), P.J. Boone (10-52) and Cameron Turner (2-39).

Anthony Nunez put Weston Ranch on the scoreboard with 4 minutes to play in the third quarter after muffed Oakdale snap scooted the ball to his outstretched arms for a 32-yard fumble return touchdown.

The Cougars scored again with 5:13 remaining in the game after Antoine Robinson connected with starting quarterback (then at receiver) E.J. Allen for a 21-yard strike to pay dirt.

Robinson completed both of his fourth quarter passes to Allen for 51 yards in the contest. Allen was 3 for 8 for 27 from the helm as well.

“We have not had that combination in a while, and that’s something we were looking to get back to,” Hale said, referring to his quarterback swap. “They are both good athletes for us, and they are interchangeable.”
Weston Ranch (1-7 overall, 1-4 Valley Oak League) hosts Kimball on Friday.
