Oakdale sweeps season series with East Union

The East Union Lancers got their second crack at the Oakdale Mustangs, but the results didn’t improve much as the Lancers dropped their Valley Oak League match with Oakdale 3-0 Tuesday in Oakdale.

East Union (8-4 VOL) found minimal success in the first game, but could not get anything going the remainder of the match, falling 25-19, 25-9 and 25-14 to one loss Oakdale.

Taylor Maruca led the Lancers with six assists and an ace, while Brittany LaMar turned away two blocks and pounded home three kills. East Union also got a pair of blocks from Starla Beltran.

Oakdale was led by senior standout Jackee Lee, who turned out a match-high 27 assists and 14 digs for the Mustangs (11-1).

East Union will try to salvage the remainder of the season when they host the Sonora Wildcats Thursday, followed by its VOL finale with Sierra Tuesday.

Sonora 3, Manteca 0
The Buffaloes were able to give Sonora a tough fight, but it did not turn into any wins in a 3-0 loss to the Wildcats Tuesday.

Manteca (3-9, 4-13) came as close as possible in the first game, before eventually falling 27-25, 25-12 and 25-17.

“A couple of errors here and thee cost us in that first game,” Manteca head coach Tim Horning said. “The girls hung in there, but Sonora did just good enough to win it.”

Tara Dadasovich led the club with 10 assists, and teammate Dallas Mould added seven kills and three blocks in the league loss. Abigail Rosas had 11 digs, while Britina Burch cruised to 11 service points, including a pair of aces.

Manteca will try to close VOL on a high note when they close at Lathrop and hosting Kimball.

Sonora 2, Manteca 0
The Buffaloes could not keep pace with the Wildcats, dropping their VOL match with Sonora 25-18 and 25-13 Tuesday.

Samantha Morris had five assists and Ashley Gase dished out four aces in her six service points. Jessica Munoz added three kills, while both Jaime DeRosa and Brittnee Sotelo had three digs.
