The additions of Hilmar and Orestimba made the Trans Valley League even tougher Ripon High this year, and that was reflected in the all-conference selections.

Ripon (4-5-3, 8-11-4 overall) finished in sixth place out of seven teams but trailed third-place Riverbank, the TVL’s third and final Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoff qualifier, by just three points in the standings.

That resulted in less spots available to Ripon players in the all-league voting, as only three Indians were named to the first team.

Fourth-year varsity starter Zach Slamon was selected for the second time (2008) after scoring six goals and six assists.

Senior goalkeeper Tim Combley was voted in for the second straight year. He racked up 101 saves and five shutouts while allowing 1.8 goals per game.

Midfielder Jared Berglund was among Ripon’s top scorers with seven goals and two assists, as his 16 points was third most on the squad.

The Indians’ top scorer, senior forward Bryant Macias (6 goals, 7 assists) made honorable mention.

Sophomore Arik Anaya (3 goals, 3 assists), an all-league selection last year, is also on the honorable-mention list, along with Ripon defenders Brett Clark, Tamim Shetab, Justin Cardoza and Cesar Nuno.

League champion Hilmar (11-1, 15-4-5) was awarded two of the three major honors — Louie Bettencourt is Coach of the Year, and prolific scorer Alex Bettencourt (25 goals, 14 assists) is the Offensive MVP.

Hughson’s Jesus Tejeda was named Defensive MVP.

Hilmar was upset by Capital Christian in the first round of the Division-IV playoffs, while Hughson fell to eventual champion Dixon.

Riverbank was the only TVL team to make it out of the first round, only to become Dixon’s next victim.
