The Manteca Softball Club Tigers stood out as the best of a 15-team in the Independent Fastpitch Association Fall Ball Gold Championships field by posting surprising blowouts of higher-seeded squads in Sacramento Nov. 13-14.

Qualifying for bracket play as the No. 7 seed, Manteca SC’s under-12 team blasted the No. 2 team 8-0 before trouncing the No. 3 10-0 in the semifinals.

Squaring off with the team that upset the top-seeded squad, the Tigers turned a tightly-contested 3-2 contest into a 12-2 drubbing in the fourth quarter. The game was finished early due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Pitcher Haighley Kissee anchored the Tigers with stellar pitching throughout the weekend, posting a 4-1 record with a save and a miniscule 0.64 ERA. She didn’t give up an earned run on championship Sunday, which consisted of the three bracket games.

Kissee couldn’t have done it without batterymate Valerie Ramos, her catcher for five games.

Leading the charge offensively was Melissa Hansen, who hit .625 with team-highs 10 hits and eight runs. Hailey Hernandez chipped in with .600 average and four RBIs, while Kaycee Petersen batted .471 with six runs.

Jenny Anderson (.385, six runs) and Kissee (.389, four RBIs) supplied additional pop, as each blasted a home run.

Ashlyn Hernandez, Melanie Ramos, Ashlie Siebler, Shannon Kerns and Janelle Rodriguez make up the rest of the Manteca SC roster. The team is coached by Jonathan Kissee and Scherie Whaley.
