Manteca’s tallest building yet in terms of multiple floors – the four-story Hampton Inn & Suites – is breaking ground at The Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley/Lifestyle Outlets at Manteca.

The hotel is being built at 1461 Bass Pro Drive to the south of the outdoor retailer and to the north of Atherton Drive.

The 23,499-suare-foot building itself is going to cost $5 million to build.

Manteca Lodging LLC is planning to take advantage of the double drawing power of Bass Pro Shops and the outlet mall that boost  regional drawing power much like hotels do at the Gilroy Outlets and Vacaville Outlets. The marketing plans also includes the Big League Dreams sports complex a mile away that has at least one tournament booked every weekend of the year.

Hampton Inn isn’t the only major commercial venture to start construction in February.

CVS Drugs’ prescription for economic growth is to invest upwards of $2 million in Manteca.

The permit for the building alone reflects $1,450,000 in construction costs for the 7,325-square-foot store being built on the northeast corner of Union Road and Lathrop Road in north Manteca. It is part of the Woodbridge Shopping Center where work is also moving forward on a Valero gas station and McDonald’s fast food restaurant plus a Prime Time Express Car Wash.

The location is close to the 1,425-home Del Webb at Woodbridge senior community now under construction.

CVS is one of the nation’s largest pharmacy and convenience store chains in the country and is similar to Walgreen’s. There are more than 6,800 CVS Drug Stores nationwide. CVS is in the process of buying the Longs Drug Store chain in Northern California.

Red Robin is the first restaurant to move forward with plans to build a freestanding location at The Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley.

Overall, there were 92 building permits issued in Manteca during February for construction work valued at $8.7 million.

It includes nine new single family homes with a combined value of $1.2 million.
