Thirty years ago, on December 23, 1980, high-scoring senior Ron Vander Molen poured in a game-high 21 points to lead the powerful Ripon Christian High team to a 65-51 non-league basketball triumph over East Union High. The loss dropped the Lancers to 7-4 on the season. EU coach Bill Stricker blamed the loss on a lack of offensive rebounds by his Lancers and too many turnovers. Kelly Stewart and Billy Emperador finished up as high scorers for East Union with 15 points apiece. Stewart also reeled in nine rebounds, blocked three shots and had four steals.
