MODESTO - The Modesto Junior College Departments of Theatre, Music and Dance will present “Oklahoma!” the classic musical by Broadway legends Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II on March 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 at 7:30 p.m. and on March 22 and 29 at 2 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center on East Campus.

The musical, set in the early part of the 20th century when Oklahoma was still Indian territory, is a celebration of the American spirit. The plot is centered on the romance of Curly McLain, a ranch hand, and Laurey Williams, a farm girl and the object of his affections. However, the lovers are too proud to admit their feelings for each other. Just to spite Curly, Laurey accepts an invitation to the local box social and barn dance from the evil Jud Fry. A secondary romance concerns flirtatious Ado Annie and her long-suffering fiancé Will Parker who has returned early from his trip to Kansas City.

The score includes beloved Broadway songs “Oh What a Beautiful Morning,” “People Will Say We’re in Love” and the title song, “Oklahoma!” The MJC cast includes Lindsay Pearce as Laurey, Keaton Williams as Curly, Joseph Hamilton as Jud, Chris Hamby as Will, and Emily Shrader as Ado Annie. The stage direction is by Professor Michael Lynch, musical direction by Professor Cherrie Llewellyn and choreography by Professor Lori Bryhni.

Tickets are available in advance at the MJC Box Office, Tuesday through Friday, 12 noon - 5 p.m., 575-6776, or online at and are $15 for general, $12 student/seniors. Tickets  also be available at the door 90 minutes before each performance.
