Seventy years ago, on February 7, 1941, Manteca High hit the winning stride in the Manteca High School gym. The Buffaloes defeated Ceres High, who had previously overpowered the local quintet, the local varsity winning their game 35 to 33 in an exciting overtime tussle. In the extra three minutes, “Sleepy” Poulos sank a nice field basket to put the game on ice, 35 to 33. High point man for the Buffalo squad, Ken Drury, had seven buckets for a total of 14 points, and Glen Bale was next with 10 points.
